The prayer of the sick
Qn9: I suffer from kidney disease and I have my kidneys cleaned from the time of Dhuhur to the time of Maghrib. So how can I pray ‘Asr, even though I am awake and aware, I cannot move or make wudhu (ablutions) while my kidneys are being cleaned?
Ans.9: Whoever is in this condition, then it is permissible for him to combine his Dhuhur and ‘Asr prayers in the earlier time, so he can combine these two prayers at the time of Dhuhur because of his sickness. This is due to the authentic narration from Ibn ‘Abbas (radhi Allaahu ‘anhumaa) when the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) while in Madinah combined Dhuhur and ‘Asr and Maghrib and ‘Isha and he was asked why; he (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that he didn’t want to make it a hardship on his Ummah. So, the sick person is foremost with regards to this because it is a hardship upon him to delay the ‘Asr until after its time then this is difficulty or hardship upon him. It is more appropriate for him to combine the Dhuhur and the ‘Asr at the Dhuhur time and there is no sin upon him insha’Allah.
